Judging panel

Hedge Funds Review has assembled a panel of expert judges to select the winners of the Americas Awards 2014.


Lionel Erdely
Lionel Erdely joined Investcorp in 2013 as the head and chief investment officer of hedge funds.
Prior to this Erderly held the dual position of chief investment officer (from 2004) and chief executive officer of Lyxor Inc (from 2009) and was previously with its corporate parent Société Générale Group.
During his tenure at Lyxor, he was instrumental in expanding the company's alternative investment business globally, including the Middle East, and growing its roster of large US-based institutional investors.


Frank Frecentese
Frank Frecentese is head of hedge fund research at Lyxor Asset Management.Frecentese joined Lyxor from Citi Private Bank where he was a managing director and global head of hedge fund investments. In that role he oversaw the hedge fund investments business for Citi with particular emphasis on sourcing, diligence and monitoring of hedge fund investments for the company's advisory portfolios and placement businesses.
Prior to joining Citigroup, Frecentese was an executive director at Morgan Stanley where he was the head of alternatives research for Graystone Research, an alternative investments group that performeds manager research globally on hedge funds and private equity funds and manageds bespoke advisory hedge fund portfolios for the company's ultra-high- net- worth clients. Before Graystone he worked on the European hedge fund desk at Goldman Sachs and practiced law with Stroock & Stroock & Lavan.


Deepak Gurnani
Deepak Gurnani is founder and managing principal of ARP Investments, which offers alternative risk premium products to institutional investors.
Gurnani was formerly the chief investment officer and head of the hedge funds group at Investcorp. He joined Investcorp in 1993 and established the organisation's risk management function and was one of the founding members of its hedge fund business in 1996.
Gurnani spent six years at Citicorp prior to joining Investcorp.


Hiroshi Harada
Hiroshi Harada is managing director at Lighthouse Investment Partners, where he is responsible for building the Florida-based hedge fund investment firm's business in Asia.
Prior to joining Lighthouse in 2013, he was partner and head of hedge fund research for HedgeMark Advisors, a subsidiary of Bank of New York Mellon, with responsibility for sourcing and evaluating managers for the firm's managed accounts platform. Harada previously performed a similar role at Nomura Fund Research and Technologies America, a New York-based subsidiary of Nomura Group, where he managed the funds of funds and single-manager research divisions. He was instrumental in the development of Nomura's managed accounts platform.


Samantha Levenstein
Samantha Levenstein is a portfolio adviser working with Aksia's institutional client base and consulting a number of large defined benefit pension plans. She works closely with advisory clients, providing customised hedge fund investment recommendations based on the client's portfolio needs and risk targets. Levenstein has successfully enabled a number of public plans to develop, launch, transition, invest and monitor hedge fund portfolios.
Levenstein currently works with some of Aksia's largest public clients including the New York City Employees' Retirement Board, the New York Police Pension Fund, the New York City Fire Department Pension Fund Board, the Orange County Employees Retirement System and the Texas Treasury Safekeeping Trust Company.
Levenstein was named one of the 2013 Rising Stars of Public Funds by Institutional Investor's Money Management Intelligence.


Stefan Zellmer
Stefan Zellmer is a senior managing director and chief investment officer at Revere Global Advisors. Revere provides investment solutions focused on new and emerging hedge fund managers.
He was previously chief investment officer at Uhuru Capital Management, a fund of hedge funds focused on investments in emerging and smaller hedge funds.
Before joining Uhuru, Zellmer was a managing director and global head of research at UBP Alternative Investments and co-head of research and a member of the investment committee at Arden Asset Management.
He began his career at Morgan Stanley in 1995 where he was a vice president in the prime brokerage and asset management divisions.
